9 Biggest Robberies Ever Made in the History

Ever wondered about quick ways to get rich? I am sure we have all fantasized at one point or another about getting rich. While some hope to win the lottery, others consider illegal means to hit the jackpot. Let’s take a look at the biggest robberies in history;

Kent Securitas Depot

Kent Securitas Depot Robbery

This was one of the more carefully executed robberies. The robbers first managed to kidnap the Depot manager by posing as cops, while the rest of the group did the same to the manager’s family. They were all then taken to the depot where the robbers stole almost $92 million.

Bonds Robbery, London

Bonds Robbery, London

John Goddard was just another messenger walking down a quiet London street but the contents of his briefcase were not ordinary in the slightest. The person who mugged him has hoped to get away with perhaps a cell phone and a few Quids but what he actually got was bonds worth 300 million pounds. The person responsible for the mugging did with a mere knife. Either this was a cold-blooded mastermind, or just an incredibly lucky chap.

Boston Museum

In 1990, two amateurs walked into the museum, handcuffed the security guards and took two hours to steal 12 paintings with a combined value of $300 million. The value when adjusted for inflation must be far higher than the $300 million.

Dar es Salam Bank, Baghdad

For some strange reason, the bank had $280 million in cash reserves at the time 3 of the bank’s guards decided to take it all. The guards had been surprisingly efficient in getting away despite the numerous check posts in the city.

United California Bank

In 1972, burglars successfully managed to steal a hefty but undocumented amount. While the gang was successful in the robbery, they were caught a few months later when they tried to repeat their feat.

Knightsbridge

Valerio Viccei was a man already known to police in his native Italy for robberies and heists. In UK, he chose Knightsbridge Deposit Centre as his target. Viccei first subdued the staff and then called in the rest of his gang, who then proceeded to steal 60 million pounds. Funnily enough, Viccei managed to escape easily to Latin America but was later caught in England when he returned to try and retrieve his Ferrari.

Buhrle Art Museum

The museum in Zurich was robbed of 4 paintings valued at $140 million. The paintings included works of Monet and Van Gogh.

Schiphol Airport

In 2005, a truck carrying uncut diamonds worth $118 million was hijacked by a group of four men. With careful planning, the robbers posed as employees of Royal Dutch Airline and made the hijacking seem like an ordinary carjacking.

Baghdad

The central bank of Iraq was looted by none other than its ruler, Saddam Hussein. The dictator feared American invasion and ordered money out of the bank by sending a message through a simple note. Being the all-powerful dictator, his command was followed and Saddam’s men walked away from the bank with fired a single bullet. The amount they stole? – $1 billion.
